Mr. William Joseph Anderson, 79, died Saturday morning (April 25, 2009) at his residence after an extended illness.

He was a native of McLeansboro, IL, but he has resided in Waycross for the past 15 years. He retired from the United States Navy as a master chief after 20 years of service (1947-1967). His service to the Navy took him to different parts of the country as well as the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Southpoint Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL and attended Pebble Hill Baptist Church in Waycross.

He is the son of the late Harold E. Anderson and Petranella VanDeventer Anderson.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carrie Juanita Hill Anderson of Waycross; two step-children, Ed Carney (wife Elaine) of Blackshear, and Mary Anne Bracewell (husband Robert) of Bryceville, FL; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Bettie Nixon (husband Clint) of Baldwin Park, CA; one brother, Jim Anderson (wife Dee) of Santa Ynez, CA; and special nephew, Tom Nixon (wife Lucy) of Canyon County, CA.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday (April 28, 2009) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
