Summary of bio from the Book of Beloit – 1936, page 84
One of Beloit's Pioneers – RJ Burdge was born in 1833 and died May 8, 1916.
Burdge School that was built on the west side of Beloit in 1919 was named after him. He served as a school board member for twenty years beginning in 1881. Mr. Burdge was a director of the Beloit Iron Works and was also a trustee of the Beloit Savings Bank. Mayor of Beloit for two terms in 1892 and 1893 and also was a member of the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate. He served as A board member of the Beloit Library when it started in 1895 and served in the board for 21 years. He was a golf enthusiast and helped develop the Beloit County club.

RJ Burdge Dead-R.J. Burdge prominent in industrial and educational circles in Beloit died this morning at his home after a protracted illness. He was more than 70 years old, but was active in public affairs. He was one of the founders of the Beloit Iron Works.
