David J. Campbell, age 72, passed away July 18, 1991. Born August 2, 1918 in Salt Lake City to David John Stone and Susan McLaughlin Campbell. David was married to Margaret Stowe September 26, 1941 until her death in 1974. Married Vaudis Eatchell Webb on January 11, 1975.

David was raised in the Murray area, and remained there his whole life. He graduated from Murray High School, where he starred in many athletic endeavors including football, track, and basketball. He set many state records running track. His small stature did not deter him from giant accomplishments during his high school years.

David worked for the Utah State Drivers License Division for 35 years until his retirement in 1979. He retired as Chief Examiner and helped institute many programs and improvements in the division, that helped make it what it is today.

He received many awards during his tenure including the "Outstanding Service Award," and "Public Service Award" from the Governor. His friends, at the division, will surely miss him.

David was an artist and craftsman in many mediums including oil paints, woodwork, and stained glass. We all have presents from Dave that attest to his skill and craftsmanship, and which show us the love he had for each of us. David loved the out-of-doors, whether he was hunting, fishing, or working in his flowers and garden. He had an eye for the beauty of nature, and it was reflected in his painting and his love of flowers and landscaping.

David was a veteran of World War II, serving his time in the Army. He was an author, having written two books about his life experiences. He was a member of the LDS Church. His life was dedicated to the service of others. We could always count on Dave if we needed help and he was always willing to give unselfishly of his time and talents. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

David is survived by his wife, Vaudis Campbell; daughters, Mrs. Gary (Pat) Ashby, Murray; Mrs. Fred (Sharon) Morrison, Salt Lake City; step son, Mr. Frank Webb, Kent, Wash.; step daugters, Mrs. Don (Charlynn) Yates, West Valley City; Mrs. Bryce (Penny) Petersen, Sandy; eight grandchildren; 14 step grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by three brothers, George, Harold and Roy; and by two sisters, Ivy and Ruby.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 21, 1991, 1:00 p.m., in the Millcreek 3rd Ward, 3900 South 606 East. Friends may call Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.
