Joseph was born in Russia/Poland in October of 1865. He came to the United States in 1892 when he was 28 years old. In 1895 he married Eva Kwiatkowski; he was 30 and she was 27 years old. He must have married in Poland and returned to the United States alone. Eva first came to the United States, traveling alone, in November of 1898. She came through Ellis Island with $10.00; her final destination was to see her husband in Lorain. Joseph and Eva raised their children Josephine, Marie, Esther, and Joseph in Lorain, Ohio. Joseph was only able to attend school until the 6th grade and worked as a laborer to support the family. When he was 74 he was still working in the Steel Mill as a janitor. Joseph’s wife died when he was 66 years old. He loved to spend his free time fishing and playing cards with friends at the Polish Club.
