March 3, 1932 -April 23, 2009 Robert Morris Abbey, 77, of New Albany, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at his residence.
He was born March 3, 1932 in Vicksburg to Richard and Mary McGavock Abbey. He was a member of and served as an Elder in Sumner Presbyterian Church. He was retired from the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
He was a pecan tree farmer. He was past-President of the Webb Lions Club, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Masonic Lodge, He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Abbey is survived by hei wife, Lanelle Moore Abbey; one daughter, Lillian Parks and husband Robert of New Albany; one son, Randall Morris Abbey and wife Rita of Madison; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 25 at Sumner Presbyterian Church in Sumner with Amanda Gordon, Associate Pastor of First United Methodist Church in New Albany officiating.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
