Mrs. Dorothy Jane Eubank Knox, age 83, passed away at home on Sunday, April 19, 2009. Dorothy, or Dottie as she was known, was born on August 25, 1925 in Dallas, Texas to the late Henry and Pearl Eubank. She spent her school years in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. After graduating from High School, she spent 4 happy years at Baylor University in Waco Texas. She graduated with a B.A. degree in Home Economics, and taught college for a semester immediately after. She then went to work for the Gas Company in Dallas as a home demonstrator. Mrs. Knox married Horace B. (Mutt) Knox on June 8, 1947, and moved to Crockett,TX where they made a home to-gether. She was very proud of Mutt and his business at Knox Furniture. They were proud that all decisions, whether personal, business, or community, were made together. During their first few years of marriage they had three children together, Barbara in 1949, Larry in 1951, and Debbie in 1954. Dottie and Mutt loved to travel and were fortunate to travel to exciting places around the world. Mrs. Knox was an incredible woman with many talents and interests. She was an artist who worked with many different types of media including oil paint, drawing, watercolor and sewing. She would paint land-scapes or historic homes around the Crockett area or travel to paint in New Mexico, North Carolina or other locations. For years she would install drapes and blinds, make cornices, and help with decorating at Knox Furniture. She sewed clothing for her children and nieces and helped make costumes as the children went through school. In 1969 she was the director of the Lift Center in Crockett. She enjoyed working with the teachers at the Lift Center to prepare preschool age children for the transition to elementary school. Mrs. Knox was very involved with DAR and DRT, serving in many positions with both organizations. She was proud of her heritage and re-searched all the family trees. One of the things she really enjoyed was working on cross-referencing DAR literature. She was also a member of the Major Jarrell Beasley, NSDAR, where she served as past regent and was currently honorary regent of the Crockett Chapter. She loved her family and kept up with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mamaw’s house was always a fun place to go because she made it a loving home. Her family never needed Dear Abby or Heloise, because they had a direct line to Mamaw for any problem solving needs. Mrs. Knox was a member of First Baptist Church in Crockett, TX. At First Baptist, she enjoyed celebrating her faith with her husband, family and friends. Under Rev. Ed Hogan, Dottie, along with Smith and Ann Satterwhite, and Jane and Theresa Overstreet, worked on an extensive history of the church. She was a member of DRT, the Daughters of the Re-public of Texas and the DAR, the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served in many positions in these organizations, including regent. She was a life member of the Baylor Bear Foundation.
