TEXICO YOUTH KILLED IN SHOOTING ACCIDENT
Joe Edd Goforth, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. "Woody" Goforth of Texico, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Clovis hospital Saturday evening, Aug. 23, following a shooting accident.
The youth suffered an accidental self-inflicted wound at his home Saturday. According to reports, Goforth was cleaning or disassembling a 12-gauge single-shot shotgun when it discharged striking him just above his navel.
The Texico emergency vehicle transported the youth to Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Funeral services were conducted at the Farwell Church of Christ with James Wilbanks, minister, officiating. Interment was in Texico Cemetery.
Born Oct. 18, 1958 in Clovis, he was a lifetime resident of the area and a junior at Texico High School.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Goforth of Texico; his mother, Mrs. Chester Denson of Georgetown; three brothers, Roland of Farwell, Bobby of Georgetown and Steve Chancy of Clovis; three sisters, Mrs. Karol Cook of Clovis, Dorothy Goforth of Georgetown and Mrs. Susan Tipton of Tahoka.
Pallbearers were Oran Jay Autrey, Billy Autrey, Nathan Newcomb, David Newcomb, Joey West and Barry Lindley.
