He was married to Rhoda Estelle Field on 21 August 1941 in Wynote, Pennsylvania. He started his career in Chicago with Sears as a furniture buyer. He later worked for Wieboldts Department Store in accounting, but was transferred to the dress department. He moved out to California in 1945, where he was the manager of Grayson-Robinson's Ready to Wear Stores in various places in California. He also owned a dairy farm in Elk Grove, California from 1951 to 1953. From 1953 to 1955 he was a partner in the firm Trend-O-Fashion in Los Angeles, California. Later in 1955, he bought a paint store in Lodi, California, from which he later retired. He enjoyed golf and made several hole-in-ones. He was active in Kiwanis International and was known in the Lodi for his annual Christmas toy yard display. He was a diabetic and was unable to serve during World War II. His obituary appeared in the Lodi News-Sentinel issue of December 5, 1978. After his death, Rhoda married Carl Richard Moore.
