Ottis Olivier Boxx was born on 28 Apr 1922 in Doctors Inlet, FL to William Francis and Edith Marion Ballard. He was the oldest of three children. He never married.

Ottis joined the United States Marine Corp and was a corporal.

He was killed in action at Iwo Jima in the South Pacific on 1 Mar 1945. His body was shipped home after the war and buried in Peoria Cemetery, Orange Park, FL

Corporal Ottis Boxx (standing) with close buddy Corporal Jack Coutts on Iwo Jima, 26 February 1945. Ottis was killed three days later. Coutts lost his leg in the same action.
