GARDNER E. SNOW PASSES AWAY
Gardner E. Snow, a resident of this city for 58 years, died of paralysis last Saturday evening at 9 o'clock. He has been in feeble health for over a year and as he has been in very poor health the last couple of months, his death was not unexpected.
Mr. Snow was born in Pottowatamie County, Iowa, June 1, 1848. Four years later the family, consisting of three sons and one daughter, came to Utah locating in Manti in 1854, where he has since resided. He took an active part in the Black Hawk war, was city marshal five years, deputy sheriff two and a half years and served as bishop of Manti.
He went to the Missouri River for emigrants in 1868 the last time.
He engaged in freighting produce to Nevada in the early days and in railroad building.
The later years of his life have been devoted to sheep and stock raising and farming.
His parents were Warren S. and Mary Ann Voorhees Snow and he married Esther P. Cox, January 3, 1869, she surviving him. He leaves eight children and seventeen grand children. The children are, Mrs. Edna Lambert and Perry G. Snow of Salt Lake; Mrs. LaVerne Witbeck, Mrs. Addie Killpack, Mrs. Alice Woolley, and Fred C. Snow of Manti, Mrs. Alida Woolley of Price and Clifford H. Snow of Ferron.
The funeral was held at the Tabernacle Tuesday afternoon. All of his children were present except Clifford.
