MRS. CORDELIA BROWN EARLY THIS MORNING PASSES AWAY QUIETLY

Mrs. Cordelia Hastings Brown, mother of A. M. Brown, County Sheriff of Oahu, died at ten minutes past four o'clock this morning at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J. A. Gilman. Mrs. Brown had been in ill health for about a year, and for the past month has been failing gradually. She passed away quietly this morning.

Mrs. Brown was one of the best known women of Hawaii, having lived here for forty-two years. She was born in Boston on May 10, 1824, being 81 years of age at the time of her death. In 1841 she was married to Capt. Jacob Brown, a well known mariner. In 1851 they first visited Honolulu, coming here to reside permanently on August 4, 1863. Mr. Brown's death preceded his wife's by many years.

Mrs. Brown leaves four children: Sarah M. Brown, died in 1874, J. F. Brown and Arthur M. Brown of this city, and Mrs. J. A. Gilman, also of Honolulu.

A wireless message has been sent to J. F. Brown, who is now visiting on Molokai, and he is expected to arrive on the Kinau tomorrow morning. The funeral will be held in the afternoon from the Waikiki residence of Mrs. Brown, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, the burial being in Nuuanu cemetery.
