George served as a Corporal on C-47A #42-92837, 3rd Pathfinder Squadron, 98th Troop Carrier Squadron, 440th Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Jackson County, Missouri prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 12, 1942 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a mechanic and also as Married.

George died in the "Line Of Duty" when his C-47, which was on a flight with 3 other C-47 from Villeneuve-Advanced Landing Ground, France to England, descended below a low cloud formation and crashed, along with two other C-47's, on Leith Hill in England during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

The other two C-47's were #42-93754 & #43-47975.

George was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on July 27, 1948.

At the families request, George's state of birth was added to his headstone (Oklahoma) instead of his state of residence (Missouri).
