Mr. Altig was born May 28, 1915, in Genoa, Neb. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and Betty Woods were married May 12, 1946, and he farmed in Central Oregon for more than 40 years. For the last three years he was a resident of Portland.
He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and his special interests included fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, working jigsaw puzzles, growing roses, feeding and watching birds, and going on casino trips.
Survivors include his daughters, Edee Horn of Portland, Carol Englund of Washougal, Wash., and Rita Stuber of Culver; sons, Creston Altig of Portland, Bill Altig of Culver, and Richard Altig of Canby; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Altig in 1999.
There will be a private burial at Willamette National Cemetery. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home. Memorial contributions have been suggested to meals on Wheels, or Hospice Southwest.
