Mary's genealogical lineage has been documented with the NSDAR.

MARY'S lineage can be traced back to the Revolutionary War. On her father's side, MARY is the great-grandaughter of JOSIAH GRAVES, SR. (b. 1754-d. 1777). She is the grandaughter of JOSIAH GRAVES, JR., (1750-1814). Lastly, she is the great-grandaughter of FRANCIS BEARD (abt. 1745-Unknown). Both JOSIAH GRAVES, SR., and JOSIAH GRAVES, JR., were from Massachusetts and fought as Patriots in the Revolutionary War. FRANCIS BEARD fought with the Third Albany Militia, NY, during the Revolutionary War. indicates that MARY is the daughter of JOHN BEARD GRAVES (b. abt. 1801 in NY) and CATHERINE HARDER (b. abt. 1809 in NY). MARY E. GRAVES married CHARLES E. GRANT in March of 1860 in Aldborough Twp., Elgin Co., Ontario. The were married until his death in 1920.

According to the book, PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL ALBUM OF HURON COUNTY (MICHIGAN), Pg. 384, which was found in The University of Michigan Library, "MARY'S parents, JOHN B. and CATHERINE (HARDER) GRAVES, came to Winsor Township to reside. In September, 1866, her mother (CATHERINE) returned to Ontario for a visit and died there. The father remained in Winsor Township until 1869, when he went to Ontario to live with his children and died there."

According to, an 1880 U.S. Census Report and a 1906 marriage record for Jesse B. Grant, indicate that CHARLES GRANT and MARY GRAVES-GRANT had ten children. They raised their children on a farm which was located on the road that goes from Wildfowl Bay on M-25 to Kilmanagh (Bayport Rd.). Other extended family members who also had farms on this same road were the GRAVES family, the PINCUMBE family, and the HARDER family. CHARLES and MARY GRANT'S children are as follows:
