Mr. Beard was born September 28, 1926 at Wayne, Oklahoma, the son of Admeril and Clara Bennett Beard. Henry was a retired maintenance employee. He had worked for Utermoehlen Trucking, the Arma Elevator, Midwestern Minings and Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in the maintenance department. He also drove the Care Van. He was raised in Oklahoma and attended Wayne Oklahoma, Schools. He lived in Kansas City Prior to moving to Mulberry in 1968.
He married Loretta McConnell on October 2, 1953 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mrs. Beard survives at the home. He attended All Faiths Church in Mulberry. He was a member of the Hutchison-Sayre American Legion Post #176 in Mulberry and was past commander, adjutant, and executive committee member and a member of the Teamsters Union.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Victory Medal in World War II, the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Campaign Medal.
Additional survivors include three sons, Robert Christian of Panger, California, Ronald Christian of Mulberry, and Edward Beard of Mulberry, two daughters, Sandra Douglas and Kathy Scholes, both of Mulberry. Two sisters, Ann Gravely of Duncanville, Texas and Netta Calvert of Quinlin, Texas, Fifteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Beard and Martin Lee Beard.
Funeral services will be at 10am Friday, July 6, 2007, at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma with the Rev. Rodney Lawler officiating. Burial will be at the National Cemetery at Ft. Scott, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6-7pm Thursday at the Bedene Chapel at Arma. The Fr. Riley Burial Detail will conduct graveside flag folding services. The family will be at the home of Ronald and Nancy Christian, 202 E. 1st. Street in Mulberry. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma.
