MCLOUD, Okla. — McLoud resident Ila Vinita Walker went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 9, 2009.

She was born Ila Vinita Sexton on June 11, 1920, east of Shawnee in the North Rock Creek area and lived most of her entire life of almost 89 years in Pottawatomie County. She was the youngest of eight children born to Washington Sexton and Mary B. Sexton (Bettis). Her family moved from the North Rock Creek area to a farm south of Dale in 1924. She graduated from Dale High School in 1939 and married her high school sweetheart, Julius (J.E.) Walker, of Dale on March 24, 1943, while J.E. was serving as a bomber flight instructor in the Army Air Corp in Fort Worth, Texas. Three sons were born of the marriage.

Ila and J.E. moved to McLoud in 1950 where J.E. was a coach, teacher, and administrator serving 34 years as Superintendent of McLoud Schools. She was very active with J.E. in school activities and the community for over 50 years. She was an active and long time member of the McLoud Church of Christ. She also was active with and served in a number of leadership positions in the Pottawatomie County Democratic Party. Ila worked for a number of years as bookkeeper at Seikels Department Store in McLoud and later operated her own beauty shop in McLoud for almost 20 years. Ila and J.E. spent many wonderful years after his retirement, in 1986, traveling and spending time at their home away from home in Creede, Co. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends and acquaintances in the Mcloud, Dale, and Shawnee communities.

She was preceeded in death by her parents; and all seven brothers and sisters, Washington G. Sexton, Terrell Sexton, Laura Sexton, Chester McWater, Melton McWater, Jess Sexton, and Ariel Sexton; her youngest son, Robert C. Walker on July 7, 2007.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, J.E. Walker of McLoud; two of their three sons, James E. (Jim) Walker and his wife Kathy of McLoud, and John A. Walker and his wife Karen of Tulsa; Robert's widow, Virginia Walker of Oklahoma City; eleven grandchildren, Steve Walker of Midwest City; Doug Walker and his wife Melissa of McLoud, Tara Barlean and her husband Kelly of Sterling, Co., Kimberly Randall and her husband Shawn of Moore, Blaine Walker of Tulsa, Justin Walker and his wife Reanda of Tulsa, Lori Long and her husband Bobby of McLoud, Chad Walker and his wife Whitney of Moore, Erica Lape and her husband Scott of Oklahoma City, Gina Walker of Dallas, Texas, and Matthew Walker of St. Louis, Mo.; fourteen great-grand children, six boys and eight girls.

Services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the McLoud Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Dale Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Shawnee.
