The following information came from a book of short biographical sketchesin possession of Suz anne Abbott.

"W. I. Baxter was born at Greenwood, Jackson Co., Florida, Nov. 18,1844. His father James Ol iver Baxter, served in the Florida Indian wars,was a farmer, a man of great perseverance, an d twice made fortunes, bothof which he lost, and yet died comparatively rich. The secret o f hissuccess lay in the fact that he attended to his own personal affairs. Hewas always a st aunch democrat and a member of the Methodist Episcopalchurch. His wife bore the maiden nam e of Sarah Ann Futch, was a nativeof Georgia, and died in 1873, the mother of the following c hildren:Theophilus, Soloman, Sileta W. (Wife of Washington Williams), JamesDaniel Warren, Joh n, William Isaac, Susan Jane, and Elizabeth, eight inall.

William Isaac Baxter, whose name stands at the head of this sketch,enlisted in the Confederat e Army, Co. I, Fourth Florida Regiment, andparticipated in the battles at Murfreesboro, Tenne ssee; Chickamauga,Peach Tree Creek, and down to Jonesboro; after the reorganization of thearm y he was with Hood in Tennessee, and after the defeat of that generalwas back to Mississipp i and around to North Carolina, where hesurrendered. Returning to Jackson Co., Florida, he r emained there until1870, when he went to Maury Co., Tennessee, and a year later came toTexas . Here he began farming as a renter, but now owns a farm of 482acres and has 290 under culti vation, with plenty of stock and everythingin comfortable condition. He is a pushing-go-ahea d farmer.

Mr. Baxter married Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Nathan McAnulty, bothnatives of Chester Distri ct, South Carolina. Mrs. Baxter is the youngestchild and only girl in her father's family . The children that haveblessed this union are named James Lafayette, Minnie Lee, Susan Parm elia,Rufus Marvin, Clara Ray, Marcus Makinzie, Nettic Milsap and Sam Dudley."

Names of eleven children of William Isaac Baxter and Mary ElizabethMcAnulty appear to have be en taken from a Bible, along with dates ofbirth and death of some of these children, and name s of spouses withmarriage dates.
