Joshua wed Miss Harriet Perry on June 12, 1855 at Templeton, Massachusetts. He was a boot maker at the time.
In 1850, according to the census, Mr. Rich, 19, was one of five young men (all boot makers) living with farmer John Brooks, 68, and his family in Templeton.
By 1855, after marrying Harriet, the young couple were enumerated in Templeton at her father's place. Recorded there were her father, Charles H. Perry, and his second wife, Mary, along with seven of Mr. Perry's other children ages three to eighteen. Charles would pass away later that year.
In 1860 Joshua and Harriet had their own home but remained in very close proximity to her siblings and widowed step-mother. The couple did not have any children. Mr. Rich was still employed making boots.
