US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1954 and commenced the practice of law in Kalamazoo, Michigan. From 1957 to 1962, he was commissioner of the western Michigan US District Court and a member of the State Senate, 1962 to 1966. In 1967, he was elected as a Republican to the Ninetieth Congress and to the five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1979. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed legal practice until his death.
