SCHAFFER, George D. age 82 of Kettering, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009. He was a 1944 graduate of Germantown High School and was a WWII US Army Air Corp. veteran. George retired in 1985 after 37 ½ years from Gem Savings as Vice President and was a graduate of the Savings and Loan Institute. He was a 50 year member and Past Master of Germantown Lodge #257 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Past President of High Twelve Club #69, Past High Priest of Unity Chapter #16. George was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he participated in the model airplane class for youth. He is preceded in death by his parents Daniel P. and Sadie M. (Kepler) Schaffer as well as his foster parents whom George lived with for 11 years, Lester and Pauline Kurfiss. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years Janet Y. (Roush) Schaffer, daughter Ann and her husband Mark Schmidt of Chardon, OH, 2 sons Greg and his wife Nancy of Mason, Bruce of Kettering, 5 grandchildren Emilie, Daniel, Peter, Isabella and Suzanne Schmidt and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Services 2:00 p.m. Monday at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home 5555 Philadelphia Dr. at N. Main St. by Rev. John Parent. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Masonic Memorial services will be held 5 p.m. Sunday.
