John Albert Lehmann was a Savannah, Ohio area farmer, and a poet. He shared his poetry with his friends in a self published, hard back book, "A Little Book of Home and Country Verse" in 1906. Lovely illustrations were by "Miss Alice May Shriver". One copy was sent to James A. Paterson, who lived west of Savannah on Noble Road. In a note inside by Ethel Hopkins, she says that Lehmann was "a valued friend of James A. Paterson, and my Sunday School teacher when a girl. Ethel was one of James's daughters and clearly also valued Mr. Lehmann. A type written note is taped inside the cover: ..."The rhymes have mostly been written as a means of passing the time. The work being done under many difficulties and beneath the bands of a distressing and incurable illness, yet it has seemed to lighten the burden and helped brighten many an otherwise dreary and cloudy day." He goes on to thank family and friends for their kindnesses and support.
John Lehmann never married. His book is dedicated to his mother. He died a few days over six years later, near Geneva, Ohio.
