Lewis W. Sheppherd, born Dec. 15, 1771 in Spotsylvania, VA; died Sept. 15, 1858 in Greene Co., IL; married 1st Alley "Ali" Johnson (b. July 18, 1766, d. Mar. 13, 1825), Aug. 29, 1793; Lewis served in the War of 1812, and was at the Battle of New Orleans. Lewis was the second of the John Sheppherd children to live briefly in Ashe County, NC.
He purchased 200 acres on both sides of the South Fork New River in Fleetwood, NC on March 5, 1808. The family removed to Kentucky about 1811 along with brothers Stephen and Andrew and their families. Lewis completed the sale of his Ashe County land on Nov. 13, 1814 to his brother-in-law, Elijah Jennings. The Lewis Shepherd family settled on Russell Creek in Adair Co., KY.
A few years later Lewis sold his farm and moved to a 200-acre tract of land on Goose Creek in Russell Co., KY. About 1829, Lewis and family moved to, and settled in, southern Morgan Co., IL.
