Norwood Leonard DuRant Jr., beloved husband, father and "Pappy,". He was a son of the late Norwood Leonard Sr. and Elma Thomas DuRant. A graduate of Presbyterian College, Norwood served five years in the U.S. Army as an aviator. After his tour of duty, he returned to Gable and farmed in a partnership with his late brother, J. Rutledge DuRant. Norwood was on the board of directors of Farmers Telephone Coop. for more than 20 years, serving as president the last eight years before retiring. He was also on the Farm Credit Board for more than 20 years, a charter member of Gold Kist, Clarendon County Farm Bureau, Farm Service Agency Board and the State Tobacco Committee.

A strong, gentle man, he was devoted to God, his family, and his church. He was an active member of New Harmony Presbyterian Church. Always willing to serve, he was a Sunday school teacher, member of the Men of the Church, Sunday school superintendant, a deacon and an elder emeritus.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Coskrey DuRant of the home; two sons, Norwood David DuRant (Alice) of Murrells Inlet and Thomas Rutledge DuRant (Jennifer) of Gable; a daughter, Nancy DuRant Clinkscales (Norman) of Sumter; a sister, Norma D. Pollitt of Atlanta; and 12 grandchildren, Jeff Clinkscales (Joanna), Marshall Clinkscales, William Clinkscales, Andrew Clinkscales, Jesse DuRant, Woody DuRant, Ali DuRant, Ross DuRant, Tom DuRant, Josh DuRant, Emily DuRant and Zach DuRant.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be Olin B. Coskrey, W.D. Cousar, Samuel E. DuRant, Ralph W. Bleasdale, Robert D. McNair, W.H. McNair, Ulysses Hickman, Paul E. Beaufort, Harry Lee McKenzie, Willie James McKenzie, Roy Reinhardt, W.L. Coker, James C. Fletcher and Francis M. Barwick.
