Ardie W. Champion, age 85, of Winchester, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009.

He was born April 28, 1923 in Winchester, the son of the late Robert and Evie Crosslin Champion.

He served his country in the US Navy from the deck of the USS Melvin (DD-680) during World War II and worked as a machinist for Goodrich in Tullahoma.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Champion, his daughter, Beverly Champion, his son Gary Champion, his Brothers, Marshal, Russell, and James Champion and his sister, Aliene Champion.

He is survived by his sons, Ricky (Linda) Champion of Athens, AL., Larry (Mary) Champion of Estill Springs, and Ronald (Kathy) Champion of Normandy; his daughters, Linda (Daniel) Stewart of Estill Springs, Debbie (Raymond) Bowers and Dorothy (Mike) Wooten, both of Winchester. Also surviving are his brothers, Allen Champion of Illinois, Archie Champion of Greenbrier, TN., Earl Champion of Winchester, his sisters, Agnes Jordon of Memphis, Mae Boswell and Bobbie Boswell, both of Winchester. Mr. Champion has fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation at the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Services, officiated by Bro. John Gipson, in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with burial including military honors at Green Cemetery in Belvidere.
