Austin L. Walker died Thursday, August 27, 1992, at his home in Union, Utah after suffering many years with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was born in Union February 1, 1903, to John Alvin and Minnetta Robinson Walker. Austin lived his entire life in Union, attending elementary and junior high at Union School, then graduating from Jordan High School in 1924. He went on to the University of Utah, receiving his degree in education. His love of music was fulfilled at this time as a member of the Glee Club.

Austin L. Walker died Thursday, August 27, 1992, at his home in Union, Utah after suffering many years with pulmonary fibrosis.

He was born in Union February 1, 1903, to John Alvin and Minnetta Robinson Walker. Austin lived his entire life in Union, attending elementary and junior high at Union School, then graduating from Jordan High School in 1924. He went on to the University of Utah, receiving his degree in education. His love of music was fulfilled at this time as a member of the Glee Club. On April 29, 1933, he married his dear sweetheart, Gladys Winger. He began his teaching career at West Jordan Junior High, then moved on to be the principal at Herriman, Utah. He spent 17 years at Midvale Junior High teaching P.E. He then began teaching English and driver's ed. and later German at Jordan High School.

He furthered his education at the University of Washington and shortly after the opening of Hillcrest High School he moved his career there to continue teaching English, German and driver's ed. He retired in 1968, but continued teaching until 1989 as a substitute teacher in the Granite School District.

During his life he was able to touch the lives of many young people, sharing his love of education and hard work. He had a great love for working with the youth, especially the young men, both at school and church.

Austin also spent many years of his life farming. He was active in the LDS Church and held many positions including bishop, Young Men's president, stake High Council, Sunday School president.

Survivors include: Wife, Gladys W. Walker, five children, Shirley (Sheldon) Johnson, Pocatello, Idaho; Mrs. CoDele (Jack) Tenney, Santa Rosa, Calif.; Mrs. Lynnette (James) Poulsen, Redding, Calif.; Mr. John (Connie) Walker, West Jodan; Mrs. Kathleen (Douglas) Himle, Springfield,Virginia; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Union 1st Ward Chapel, 7410 So. 10th East, 11:30 a.m., Monday, August 31. Viewing will be Sunday evening, from 6-8 p.m., at Memorial Estates, 5850 South 900 East, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial, Murray City Cemetery.
