Melvin was born as a twin on February 15, 1927 near Springfield, Minnesota to William and Edna (Stark) Prechel. He married Lorraine Foss on June 14, 1952 at Gol Lutheran Church in Kenyon, Minnesota. Melvin farmed near Kenyon then moved to Rochester and drove truck for Jerome Foods for 27 years. In his retirement he loved to play two row button accordion at nursing homes and also enjoyed entertaining at family gatherings.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 children in infancy, 3 siblings; twin Alvin, Robert, and Lorraine. Melvin is survived by his son James (Gail) Prechel of SunCity, Az., adopted daughter Diane Rios of Lumberton, N.C., granchildren; Naomi (John) Downer of Richmond, Va., and Nathan Prechel of Preston, Mn., great grandchildren; Brennan Downer and Grace Himli, siblings; Henry Prechel, Norman Prechel, Eugene Prechel, Betty Stockland, Alfred Prechel, Dennis Prechel, and Sandy Brelje, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
