Caskey, Dora Stoaks - Dora Stoaks Caskey of Lenox died Sunday, June 27 at the age of eighty-eight years, two months and twenty-one days.
She was the eldest daughter of Fred and Sarah Jane Preston Stoaks and was born April 6, 1894 at her parent's homestead five miles northwest of Lenox, Iowa.
She spent her childhood there, attending the Rural School. Later, with her parents she moved to Lenox where she attended high school.
On January 29, 1913. she was united in marriage to Leo Caskey at her parent's home in Lenox. To this union a daughter was born on April 13, 1917 who died at birth.
Dora and Leo were married fifty-five years. He died on February 23, 1968.
Not having a family of their own, their home was always open for relatives and young friends. One young man, Bobbie Crossley, was taken into their home at two years of age and cared for as a son.
After graduating from high school. Crossley was provided a college education by the Caskeys and now lives in Washington, D.C. where he is employed by the U.S. government.
For a number of years, Dora and Leo supported a Korean war orphan overseas.
Since her husband's death, Dora resided in Lenox. Although suffering from illness a great part of the time, Dora continued to maintain her own home and showed great strength and courage in accepting her illness.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter, her husband, and four brothers, George, Charles, Fred, and Andrew.
Survivors include one sister, Pearl Shaw of Spokane, Washington and a number of nieces and nephews and friends will cherish her memory.
Final rites were held Tuesday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Lenox with Don Jensen officiating.
Music was provided by Dorothy Caskey, vocalist and Ruth Boltinghouse, organist. Selections were ''How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace".
Casket beaters were Robert Morris, Wayne McFee, Kenneth McFee, Ivan Lucas, Clifford Preston, and Lew Eckels.
Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.
Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox was in charge of arrangements.
