Miss Ethel Gay Goodwin died Saturday, May 30, 1992, at 9:30 p.m. in Lewis-Gale Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born July 16, 1897, in Salem, and was the last survivor of eight children of the late Frank P. and Mary Emaline Mitchell Goodwin. She is survived by Mrs. E. M. (Helen) Spencer, Ward A. Goodwin, Jr., and many other cousins and friends. She was educated in Salem schools and Elizabeth College. She was an active member and secretary of the Elizabeth College Alumni Association. She was life long member of Salem Baptist Church, and was a member of the Salem Historical Society. Miss Goodwin was retired from the Frigidaire Division of General Motors after over 40 years of service. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, at 1:30 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with the Rev. Charles A. Watkins officaiting. Interment will follow in the East Hill Cemetery in Salem. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, June 1, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
