from the Rutland Daily Herald, March 8, 1913:
Middlebury - William D. Watson, for many years a resident of Cornwall and Middlebury, died at the Soldiers' home at Bennington on Thursday evening after about a week's illness with pneumonia. Mr. Watson was a member of Company K., of the First Vermont cavalry in the Civil war and served for over three years. He has been in the Soldiers' home for the past four months with the exception of about a month when he was called to his home in East Middlebury on account of the illness and death of his daughter, Mrs. Leonel Lamorder in February and returned to the soldiers home only about three weeks ago. He leaves three children, Archie W. Watson of Middlebury, Miss Georgia Watson of East Middlebury and Fred C. Watson, an official of the state asylum for the insane in Utica, N.Y. The body was brought here on the 3.15 train Friday afternoon and burial will be in the West cemetery here where his wife and other relatives are buried.
