Gospel preacher and school teacher. Jesse T. Lashlee was born at Batesville, Arkansas, August 15, 1891 and was baptized in McKinsey, Texas June 13, 1908. He followed his father's footsteps and began preaching at Holly Springs, Arkansas in 1910. On July 23, 1911 he was married to Miss Edna Virginia Tidmore. They enjoyed more than fifty years of married life together until separated by death. Except for the last 5 or 6 years of his life, when his health had completely failed he spent his life from the time he started preaching telling the story that never grows old. The couples first home was at Gilkerson, near Jonesboro. They later moved into Jonesboro. In 1928 they moved to Grand Glaize in Independence County. It was here that Bro. Marvell Cole brought him home from a meeting in a wagon loaded with peaches, which was the big end of his pay for the meeting. In 1931 they moved to Johnstown and from thence to Newport and finally to Cash where he lived until he died. His particular "tent making" was teaching school and he taught in Jackson and Woodruff counties for 30 years. Like most preachers of the time it was necessary to supplement his preacher's pay to care for his family. He preached in White, Jackson, Craighead, and Independence counties mostly but preached on occasion throughout the area. At Augusta he met a Mr. Blansett, a Baptist, in debate. In Independence County in 1931 he met John Causey, a Baptist, in debate. Most of his preaching was by the usual monthly appointments common to the day. He was loved and respected for his work. A crippled man, at one time he preached at Swifton and had to walk home to Cash. He accepted the hardships that accrued from preaching Christ without murmuring and he loved the Lord's cause. Death came to him August 8, 1963 [tombstone indicates 1962] at the age of 72. He is buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Newport, Ark. --- Arkansas Angels, p. 142. He is also listed in Preachers of Today, Vol. 1, 1952, 197.
