Charles Benjamin was the son of Granville Bland and Mary Elizabeth Row Brady, Grandson of William Sherman and Frances Jane Lemmons Brady and Andrew Jackson and Delilah Williams Row.

Charles married Rachel Ellen Moore (daughter of Otho and Melvina Ann Price Moore) 1 Jul 1900 in Barbour County, West Virgina. Charles and Rachel had nine children:

Granville Ray, 1901-1960 (Oleta Costello); Mabel Rosalea, 1903-1983 (Burton W. Steerman); Nellie Bly, 1904-1991 (Hurshel J. Queen); Ruhl Augustus, 1906-1972 (Ocie Byrd Howell); Mary Melvina, 1908-1962 (1. George Roy Thorn, 2. James Rider); Wilma Pansy, 1910-1993 (Mason Samuel Rucker); Wilda Mae, 1912-1913; Iowana, 1914-2006 (John T. "Stew" Hilliard) and Charles Ralph, 1920-1974 (Dorothy Harris).

Charles loved his family; he was an avid hunter, who loved to run his coon dogs. He was also a protective father; when my Grandfather (Mason Rucker) came to court my Grandmother (Wilma Brady), Charles told Mason not to come back; strongly inferring he would shoot him if he did. However, when Grandpa and Grandma returned home after their elopement, Charles seems to have forgiven them, for as far as what was related to me, he never brought up the threat he'd made beforehand!
