Helen Gall Lemoine Biography

Helen Libby Ernstine Gall was born June 9, 1894 in Sebewaing, Huron County, Michigan. She married Hyatt Lemoine on June 2, 1920. He was born on September 27, 1879 in Texas.
She was the daughter of Gustav Reinhold Gall (July 9, 1862 – July 22, 1940) and Malvina Grassman Gall (August 22, 1867 – June 24, 1959).

Her father, Carl GUSTAV ("Gustav") Reinhold Gall, was born in Silesia (Schlesien), Germany on July 9, 1862, the son of Karl Heinrich Gall (1822-1882) and Maria Rosina Kunisch Gall (1827-1869), who were married in the Evangelical Church in Kaiserswaldau on February 5, 1850. He was baptized at the Evangelical Church in Ober Hausdorf, Siliesia, Prussia on July 29, 1862.

Gustav, his three brothers, and their younger half-sister Ottilie Gall (Weirauch) emigrated from Pomerania to Michigan in the 1880s. He settled in Sebewaing in Huron County, where he met and married Malvina Marie Elisabeth Grassmann on February 23, 1888. Malvina was born in Niagara County, New York on August 22, 1867. She was the daughter of German immigrants from Mecklenburg, Michael Friedrich Grassmann (1857-1907) and Dorothea Sophia Christine Bolzmann Grassmann (1842-1913).

Gustav and Malvina owned a farm and had four children, Emma Bertha Maria (1888-1975), Amanda Rosina (1889-1981), Ernest Gustav (1892-1951), and Helen Libby Ernstine. They adopted a fifth child Ferdinand Marten (1905-1995).

Gustav died in Sebewaing on July 22, 1940. He was interred at the New Salem Cemetery in Sebewaing. Malvina died on June 23, 1959, at the age of 91. She is also buried at New Salem Cemetery, beside her husband in the Grassmann-Gall section of the cemetery.

The children of Helen Gall and Hyatt Lemoine were:

• Bienville Lemoine, born May 30, 1921 in New York; died June 1, 1992.
• Hyatt Lemoine, Jr., born February 13, 1923 in New York; died November 23, 1998 in Northford, Connecticut.
• Alice Lemoine (Potapow), born May 14, 1924 in New York. She married Alec J. Potapow; born August 3, 1914; died February 7, 1996 in Ocala, Marion County, Florida.
• Henry W. "Hank" Lemoine, born December 22, 1925 in Hackensack, New Jersey; died April 2, 1989 in Kutztown, New Jersey. He married Rita M. Garvey.
• Helen Lemoine (Little), born June 6, 1927 in New Jersey; died November 1986 in Savannah, Georgia.

Hyatt Lemoine died April 14, 1971 in Hackettstown, New Jersey. Helen died April 2, 1986 in New Haven, Connecticut.

Helen Gall Lemoine Biography
