John J. Bulger was the son of John & Mary (Eustace) Bulger. He was born with an identical twin brother, Thomas F. Bulger. He was raised on Hebden Street in the East Newark section of Harrison, NJ. John worked locally as a wire weaver and by 1884 he had relocated to Holyoke, MA where he was employed, in his craft, by Buchanan Bolt & Co..

On, 13 April 1887, he was married, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Harrison, NJ, to Margaret Donahue who was the girl across the street from his boyhood home. They took up housekeeping in Holyoke where their son, Percival was born. By 1891, they had returned to NJ where John ran a saloon in Newark, NJ at 43 Bridge Street. John died, on 24 July 1901, at 74 Clinton Street, Newark, NJ and was buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery with Maggie's parents, Thomas & Annie Donahue. (msa)
