Clarion Democrat, July 31, 1919 - After eighty years of life, with all its changing scenes, its joys and its sorrows, its victories and defeats, Mrs. Rebecca Riley arrived at the time when she laid down her life last Monday, July 28, 1919, at 9:20 a.m., and her spirit, at peace with man and God, returned to him who gave it. This life, tho' often saddened by life's strenuous vicissitudes, closed in perfect calm and peacefulness as she could say "I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that I have committed to him against that day." Quietly she committed her spirit to him whom she had served for almost seventy years, and went to sleep.
The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Redic, and was born March 34 [sic], 1839, in Butler county. When about 19 years of age the family came to Clarion county and settled on the farm near to Curllsville. Soon thereafter she was united in marriage with Mr. Thomas Riley, who died about 18 years ago.
Two sons survive, namely: Wm. M. Riley, Marietta, 0., and H.B. Riley, Clarion, at whose home she passed away. One daughter, Mrs. Sherman Seanor, Dayton, Pa., preceded her in death.
Two brothers survive, Jackson Redic, of Stillwater, Okla., who is 82 years of age, and C.A. Redic, of Eldorado, Butler county, Pa.
Mrs. Riley has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church from her early girlhood and was known by her neighbors and friends as one of the most consistent and faithful of christians. This was demonstrated daily throughout her long residence at Curllsville and later in her residence at Clarion with her son, at both of which places she was esteemed and loved because of the christian graces characteristic of her.
Funeral services were held at her son's home in Clarion on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock in charge of her pastor, Rev. AC. Locke. Wednesday morning the remains were taken to Curllsville, where services were conducted by Rev. Dr. J.M. McCurdy and Rev. Locke, and the body was laid to rest in the Curllsville cemetery to await the resurrection of the just.
