Mary Jane Couch Teglas, 75, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, in Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn.

She was a faithful wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As a military wife, she traveled with her husband worldwide. While the family was stationed in West Germany, she served as a Girl Scout leader. As a homemaker in her latter years, she was a devoted volunteer and classroom grandmother to hundreds of students at Powell Valley Primary School, Big Stone Gap, Va. She was a member of the Honeycutt Sunday school class at Trinity United Methodist Church, Big Stone Gap, and a life member of Lettie Rebekah Lodge 73.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; two brothers; and a granddaughter, Ashton Teglas.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Joe Teglas; daughter, Mary Jo Myers of Big Stone Gap; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Kimberly Teglas of Appalachia, Va., and Kingston; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Courtney and Randall Hampton of Big Stone Gap; grandson, Jon Clark Teglas of Appalachia and Blacksburg, Va.; great-granddaughters Kaitlin Buckles, Hannah Beth, Ashley and Samantha Hampton, all of Big Stone Gap; and special friend and "adopted-by-love granddaughter," Erin Herndon of Big Stone Gap.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, in Trinity United Methodist Church. Funeral service will follow in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Nate Ware and the Rev. Tony Nunley officiating. Graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at American Legion Cemetery, Powell Valley. Those wishing to join in the procession should assemble at Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia, at 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be nephews and family friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to either Trinity United Methodist Church, Big Stone Gap; or Andover United Methodist Church, Appalachia.
