Born Jan. 17, 1916, in Hancock County, he was a member and former song leader of Compromise Baptist Church. A member of American Legion Post 50, Rockwood, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in the European Theater. He was a retired mechanic and had cut timber for many years.
He was preceded in death by parents, Thad and Lucy Wolfe; his wife of 65 years, Bessie Diamond Wolfe; son, Prentice Harold Wolfe; daughter-in-law, Sandi Wolfe; brothers, Elisha Wolfe, John Wolfe and Woodrow Wolfe; sisters, Mary Wolfe, Ida Greene and Bessie Turner; and special nephew, J.W. Wolf.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Carl and Wilma Wolfe of Bean Station, Kenneth and Jean Wolfe of Marietta, Ind., J.E. and Sue Wolfe of Kingston, Doyle and Joann Wolfe of Morristown and Harley Wolfe of Rockwood; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Bill Harwell of Midtown; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Mathis of South Carolina; special niece, Ethel Mayes of Indianapolis; and devoted friends, Tyrone Pankey, Charlie Marlow, Leslie Maddox and the Scarborough family.
Funeral service was at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 12, in Evans Mortuary chapel, Rockwood, with Bro. Eddie Chasteen and Bro. Delbert Umphreys officiating. Graveside service, with full military honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard, and burial were at 11 a.m. Monday, April 13, at Piney Grove Cemetery, Midtown.
