Rev. Drury Dobbins is known as the Father of the Baptist denomination in western North Carolina.

He helped begin Double Springs in 1846 & led in it's early growth until his death. The Reverend began ministering at age 20 & was ordained 12-Mar-1803 at State Line Baptist.

His first pastorship began at Sandy Run Church, where he served 1803 to 1847. He also pastored Zion and Buffalo. Dobbins also helped organize Capernum, High Shoals, Zion, Zoar, and First Baptist in Shelby.

Rev. Dobbins married more couples, preached more funerals, had more namesakes, & preached the Gospel than any other minister of his time.

Dobbins also farmed and made shoes.

He height was stood 5' 10", weighing about 200 lbs.

Dobbins was buried in his family's cemetary on his plantation which is located one mile north of the present day Drury Dobbins Church
