Mrs. Hattie Susan Walden, Owen County's oldest resident, died about 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of a son, Charlie Walden, 750 W. Hillside, in Spencer.

She was 100 years and five months old.

Persons attending the annual Ellettsville Fall Festival will remember Mrs. Walden, as she always took the prize for the oldest person at the Festival until this year when she was confined to bed and couldn't go.

Even though she couldn't attend the Festival this year, she wasn't forgotten. Senator Vance Hartke, who spoke at the Festival, paid a special visit to her bedside in Spencer.

Mrs. Walden was born and reared on a farm in Flatwoods Addition near Chambersville, and she lived there until only a few years ago when she moved to Spencer. She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Lynn Chambers, and her birth date was June 22, 1864.

She married Lewis Walden in 1882, and he died 26 years ago. They had four children. Pearl Myers and Bert Walden, who preceded her in death, and Charlie and Ralph Walden, both of Spencer. She had 15 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Mt. Olivet Christian Church.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Macy Funeral Home on N. Main St. in Spencer. Rev. J. W. Paul will officiate.

Burial will be in Chambersville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
