!Rena was born in Dow City, Iowa. When she was 10 or 11 years old she, her mother and father and one brother moved to Weldon, Texas, where her mother died when Rena was 12 years old. She and the family returned to Crawford Co., Iowa and she and her father worked for Mr. & Mrs. Plato Dunham. She remained there until she met and married Henry Berens.

Rena Augusta (Datterl) Berens passed away at the Dunlap Care Center, in Dunlap Iowa Friday July 25th at the age of 100 years old. She was born Nov 25th, 1907 near Dow City, IA to John and Lucy Annette (Robinson) Datterl. She attended country school in the Paradise Twp. area. When she was about 10 years old, she, her mother and father and one brother John, moved to Weldon, Texas, where her mother died when Rena was 12 years old. Rena and the family returned to Crawford Co., Iowa after the death of her mother, where she and her father worked for Mr. & Mrs. Plato Dunham of Dunlap. She married Henry L. Berens, September 10, 1928 at St. Patricks Church in Dunlap. The couple was blessed with six children. They lived on their farm in Boyer Twp., Crawford Co. for their full married life until Henry passed away in 1955. After Henry's death, Rena and two of her children moved into the town of Dunlap.

Rena was preceded in death by her husband Henry L.Berens, a son Howard P.Berens and a grandson Howard Michael Berens also a sister Stella Mae Gorden of Lake City, IA and two brothers, Andrew and John Datterl both of Dunlap. She is survived by three sons; John (Jack) & wife Darleen of Huntington Beach, CA; Joe Berens of Dow City, IA, Ed Berens & wife Meridel of Dunlap, IA; & two daughters Pauline & husband Don Schmitz of Dedham, IA; & Helen & husband Roger Houston of Dow City, IA.; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
