William David Terry died at age 74 at his home. He was a retired railroad engineer on the Southern Pacific Lines. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Hearne , of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and The Woodsmen of The World. In 1884 he was a stone cutter in Van Buren, Arkansas. , from 1884-1885 he worked as a wood piler, H&TC Railroad, he also was a fireman for the H&TC RR, in Hearne, and a train engineer in Hearne from 1888-1922. He retired in 1923,and lived in Houston but went back to Hearne frequently as he had properties there and always visited his friends and family while there in Hearne. He is survived by his wife , Lily (Ayres ) Terry. of Houston, Texas. Also three daughters, Mrs. R.C Jackson, of New York City, Mrs. Henry J. Hibler and Mrs. Sewell L. Firsching of Houston, three sons , C.B, E.B.,& D.L.D. Terry, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild. He will be buried at Norwood Cemetery in Hearne ,Robertson County, Texas. Active pallbearers were E.S. Ayres, J.H.Forney, J. Wesley Hull, A.C.Biggs,M. Underwood, Joe M. Jackson. Interesting notes- William was known in the railroad circles as Baldy Terry. His railroad career started in the early days when coal was used as fuel. He was a fireman & locomotive engineer, later becoming an engineer for the H&T & C, Railroads, that ran from Hearne to Giddings on the Dalsa. He met his wife in Hearne. His wife was born in Attala County , Mississippi . She came to Texas with her brother James Ayres ( Jim), who owned & operated a 5 and dime store and photograpy studio there in Hearne. James Ayres was a photographer, who married Lula Jennings~
