Josephine D. Sherman was born near Wentzville, Mo. February 27 1842 and died at her home in St. Louis September, 8, 1920 at the age of 78 years 6 months and 11 days. On December 14, 1858 she was married to Wesley W. Sherman. They continued to reside for a time in or near Wentzville, then moved to Montgomery City where Mr. Sherman was connected with the Paul Brown Tobacco Co. In 1894 they moved with the rest of the Company to St. Louis where she continued to reside until her death.

Her husband died October 10, 1914. She was the mother of eight children as follows; Emmet G. Sherman of 301 East Davis St., Norman, Okla. Lulu C. who died in St. Charles in the year 1885: Minnie M., now Mrs. Haff of 4226 A. Kussel Ave., St. Louis, Mo., Addie, now Mrs. W. J. McGrath of 1620 Hickron Ave. Columbia, Mo., Sylvia P. now Mrs. W. B. Adams of 3815 Flad Ave. St. Louis Mo. Homer M. Sherman of 4226 A Russel Ave., St. Louis, Mp., Ray B. Sherman of 4226 A. Russel Ave St. Louis, Mo., Robert D. Sherman of 1315 N. Dewey St., Oklahoma City, Okla. Besides her seven living children and their families, she leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn her departure. But sorrow not, for Mrs. Sherman was a woman of genuine Christian character. Having united with the Methodist Church when 14 years of age, she lived a life of devotion to her christian duty as she understood it, and when the end came she was ready. The writer was her pastor for two years at Montgomery City and is glad to bear testimony to her christian character. On Friday, September 10 her body was shipped from St. Louis, to Wentzville, accompanied by her children and her pastor, Rev. W. E. Brown of Shaw Ave. Methodist Church, and taken to the Wentzville Methodist Church where funeral services were conducted by Brother Brown and the writer, after which it was tenderly laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Wentzville Cemetery. May the blessings of our Heavenly Father rest graciously upon her loved ones until they all meet in that "Home of the Soul" where sickness, sorrow, pain and death are felt and feared no more.
