Sarah Abigail Yancey was born on February 14, 1822 in Oglethrope County Georgia. The 8th of ten children, she was the daughter of Georgia pioneers Thomas Yancey and Sarah Hicks Yancey. Her grandfather, Isaac Hicks, fought in the American Revolution. On November 23, 1838, when she was 16, Sarah married 29 year old Noland Wright. The couple quickly relocated to a farm in Chambers county, Alabama.

Sarah was the mother of nine children: William Yancey, Irena Francis, Arabella, Eliza Ann, James H.,Noland James, Uleses Melton, Virginia, and Crawford N. Sarah came to her Alabama farm at about age 18 with her husband Noland Wright. Her sister Eliza had married Noland's brother James, and both families came to Chambers County Alabama. Through the Civil War, widowhood and the deaths of five of her children, Sarah remained in Chamber's County. She died there in 1905.

Death of Mrs. Wright.

Mrs. Sarah Wright, a venerable lady, died at her home in LaFayette last Wednesday night in her eighty-third year. The immediate cause of her death was pneumonia. She leaves four children, Mrs. Morris, of Birmingham; Mrs. Wesley Davidson, of near LaFayette; C. N. Wright, of LaFayette; and Yancey Wright, of Atlanta. The deceased was buried at LaFayette, Dr. Bledsoe conducted the funeral rites.

Description of home at time of death (from newspaper sale description):
A certain tract of land situated about one half mile south of the courthouse at LaFayette, Alabama, being located as follows, 80 acres being in the northwest quarter of section 35, township 22, range 26 about 34 acres, more or less, being located in the southwest quarter of section 13, township 22, range 26, all being bounded on the south by lands owned by Zach Schuessler and W. C. Lowe, now deceased, in Section 13, and 24, on the north by lands owned by Zach Schuessler and J. T. Heflin and on the west by lands owned by Fanny Wyley, colored, Sam Wright, colored, and a short street running north and south from the Negro church to the oil mills, said lands being further described as known as the lands belonging to the late Mrs. Sarah A. Wright, now deceased, and occupied by her as homestead at the time of her death, the same having been purchased together with other lands by Nolen J. Wright, from Thomas K. Smith, in the year 1853.
All of said lands lying in Chambers County, Alabama.
