Jimmie Griggs, 71, of San Mateo, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Roberts Care Center after a long illness.
He was a native of Dothan, Ala., and moved to Palatka in 1957 with the Florida Highway Patrol. He left the Highway Patrol and worked as a Deputy with the Putnam County Sheriff's Department under the direction of Walt Pellicer until he retired in 1981. He was a Master Mason of the 32nd degree with Masonic Lodge #183 F&AM in Hastings and a member of the Shrine Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Shriners and their children. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Griggs of San Mateo; sons, Carlton & Della Griggs of East Palatka; Jimmy and Shannon Griggs of North Carolina; brothers, Gene Griggs of Lake Geneva; Wallace Griggs of Salt Springs; and Charles Griggs of Gainesville; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Monday, June 21 at San Mateo Cemetery with Masonic Lodge #183 F&AM conducting rites. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office will serve as honor guard.
