Peter Christian "Chris" Hanson was born 19 November 1872, in Karensby, Denmark. He married "Mary" Eliza Marie Nielsen on 14 January 1898 in the Albert Lea, Minnesota. To this union, six children were born: D. Arnold Hansen; T. Elmer Hansen; Clarence Leonard Hansen; Lydia R. Hansen; Alta Hansen Nelson; and Sidney Herbert Hansen.
While the family was in Minnesota, Chris worked as a farmer. When the family moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, Chris ran a mail route for the U.S. Post Office. Mary ran the route when Chris became ill, until he was able to return to work.
Chris and Mary built a two-story home in Cedar Falls in the 200 block, on the corner of East 10th street. When they felt that home was too big for them, they built a smaller house on the lot beside it. They rented the larger home out and moved into the smaller one.
