Harold is the son of Enos Blakslee & Clara Hawks.
He married (1st) Bertha L. (Howes) Holden on 4 May 1920 at Greenfield, MA, they divorced. He married (2nd) Elizabeth A. (Perry) Eliot on 26 Sept 1942 at Buckland, MA; she was b. c. 1912 in Deerfield, d/o Arthur Perry & Gertrude Gallup; this was her 2nd marriage, she was divorced.

Montague - Harold R Blakslee, died aged 93 at Farren Memorial hospital; resident of 862 Fairway avenue; was a corporal in the famed World War I Lafayette Escadrille; believed to be one of the last surviving members of the flying squadron, he served in Verdun France, the unit later became the 103rd Pursuit Squadron Army Air Service. He enlisted in the Army in 1917 and volunteered for service with the Escadrille, made up of American volunteers in France. While the unit was stationed in England, it was cited by King George V. He was a corporal and airplane mechanic with the ground crew support team for the Escadrille, and served through 1919. His decorations include two Gold Service chevrons, a Bronze Victory Medal, and Victory Medal with two clasps.

After the war he returned to this area and founded the Hale Clapp Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 3295, South Deerfield, and was the first VFW District 13 commander.
Member First Church Deerfield, Rowe Historical Society, and associate member Franklin County Farm Bureau.

Born in Ashfield he attended Ashfield schools and New York Trade School. He lived in Greenfield 1919 to 1934 when he moved to Conway and was a member of its finance committee. He had lived on Montague since 1981. He worked for Millers Falls Tool Co. for 20 years.

He leaves his wife the former Elizabeth S. Perry; a daughter Gertrude E. Ralph of Greenfield; and a grandchild.

Funeral Sunday afternoon in the church, burial in Christ Church cemetery Guilford Vt., Hodgen-Walker funeral home in charge. (Springfield Union, 18 Mar 1983, p. 5)
