His widow died there May 17, 1853. By his 2d marriage, Lois became the step-mother of 6 children, the eldest but 7 years old. She was the only mother these children ever knew. Her granddaughter says of her, "She was of medium size, brown hair and blue eyes--a beautiful woman. Was a faithful Christian and amiable in all her ways." Lois had no children.
