Donald E. HARRISON, 40, who moved to South Bend from Rochester seven months ago, has died of an unexplained beating.
A resident of 523 South Michigan St., Harrison died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday in South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Harrison was found unconscious in the 1800 block of South Michigan Street about 3 a.m. on June 28. Police said he had been beaten about the face, head and chest, causing fractures of the skull and facial bones.
He was taken to the Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit where he remained comatose until his death, according to Dr. Louis GRWINSKI, St. Joseph County cornoNer. Police said they have no suspects in the beating.
Harrison was born May 3, 1947 in Rochester to Sam and Mildred ANGLE HARRISON. He had resided in Rochester most of his life. In 1971 he married Rose Marie REICE, who survives. He had been an employee of the Rochester Tree Trimming Service and Rochester Metal Products.
Surviving are the mother, Mildred HARRISON, Rochester; three daughters, Regina, Rebecca and Samantha HARRISON, all of Rochester; three brothers, Robert and John [HARRISON], both of Rochester, and Charlie [HARRISON], Auburndale, Fla.
Arrangements are pending at the Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, for Donald E. HARRISON, who died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday in memorial Hospital, South Bend.
The Rev. Olin CORBITT will officiate. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until services.
A survivor not listed previously is a son, Donald E. HARRISON Jr., Rochester.
Donald Harrison was beaten severely about the head, face and chest last month on the south side of South Bend a few blocks from where he resided. He was found unconscious on June 28 and taken to Memorial Hospital, where he died without regaining consciousness.
South Bend police said the beating took place during a robbery.
