Frank Haas, son of Valentine and Elizabeth Haas was born in Germany, Sept. 14, 1848, and died at the home of his son, Louis, in Somerset, Mich., May 20, 1933, at the age of 84 years and eight months.
One of a family of six, he came to America with his parents when a young man and established their home in Fulton, County, Ohio. Later he came to Northern Michigan and spent several years in the lumber camps there.
On August 31, 1889, he was married to Carolina Zapt at Howard City. They lived at Howard City for five years, and then came to this community. Their marriage was blessed with two sons who are left, with four grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews to mourn their loss. His wife preceded him in death about thirteen years ago.
He tenderly cared for her during 15 years of invalid life.
He suffered a stroke last December, from which he recovered sufficiently to be about. He suffered a second stroke Tuesday morning, May 16, from which he never regained consciousness.
In life, in death, they travel toward God's throne;
His hands reach out to draw them gently home.
He, at the journey's end, gives peaceful rest,
His heart, the only homeland of the blest
The funeral services were held at the home of Louis Haas in Somerset, Rev. J. D. McLouth officiating, assisted by Rev. Kenneth Ollis. Burial was made in the Somerset cemetery
