Norman T. "Dobie" Burns, age 70, Joplin, MO, passed away Monday, May 3, 2004, at his home.

He was born Jan. 16, 1934, in Joplin, MO and was a lifetime resident. He was a dock worker at Yellow Transit for several years and worked as a carpenter in residential construction for 20 years, retiring due to ill health. He married Dorothy May Brokob on May 27, 1981, in Miami, Okla. They went on to have a wonderful marriage and relationship. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include two sons, Shane Burns and his wife, Cindy, Webb City, Tom Woods and his wife, Thseresa, Joplin; two daughters, Debra Fitzgerald and her husband, Jim, Joplin, Sue Gurley and her husband, Dewayne, Joplin; six grandchildren, Dylan, Patty, Tonya, Rose, Amanda, Ashley; four great-grandchildren with one expected; two brothers, Ben Burns and Calvin Burns, both of Joplin, two sisters, Edna Lee, Smithfield, Mary Mitchell, Joplin; and many other family and friends.

He was well known and loved by many. Mr. Burns was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patty Joan Burns; and two brothers, Charles Burns and Bill Burns.

Services were held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Doug Wilkerson officiated. Interment was at Moore Cemetery, Nevada, MO. The family received friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wedneday at Parker Mortuary Chapel. The family served as pallbearers.
