SOPHIA ELIZABETH HEINRICH DOWNING CALLAHAN - Age 82, West Plains - Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. today in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains, with Rev. James Sharp officiating. Mrs. Callahan, a former resident of South Tower Apartments, died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday in West Plains Memorial Hospital. She was born May 3, 1899, in Moody, the daughter of Jacob and Amanda Jane Nicks Heinrich. She attended the Prairie Grove School in Howell County. IN 1917 she was married to John Harvey Downing, who preceded her in death Oct. 16, 1943. In 1945 she was married at West Plains to William Callahan, who preceded her in death April 3, 1970. Mrs. Callahan had been active in the Amy Union Workers, the South Fork Ladies Aid and the China Church Ladies Aid for many years. She was of the Methodist faith, having been a member of Amy Union Church since young womanhood. Survivors include three daughters and one son, Evelyn West, Dorothy Hayes, Audrey Bunch and Carl Downing, all of West Plains; one stepson, Paul Callahan, one step-daughter, Fern Easley, both of West Plains; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren, one brother, Lowell Heinrich, Caulfield, and a number of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husbands, on son, Chester Downing, four brothers, two sisters, one granddaughter and two great grandsons. Burial was in Amy Union Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
